Born on 16th of September 1387
Henry V was born at Monmouth Castle in Wales, in 1387, his father was Henry Bolingbroke, who ultimately seized the crown from Richard II, and reigned as Henry IV, his mother was Mary De Bohun, who was the daughter of the Earl of Hereford. He was very well educated and mastered languages easily, learning Latin, French and English. His father Henry IV was exiled by his cousin Richard II, after he had rallied support with the Nobles, in opposition to Richard, who ultimately banished Henry IV for ten years. However, Henry his young son was only twelve at the time, and Richard decided to take him under his wing, and took him on a military campaign to Ireland with him. When Henry IV's father died Richard saw his opportunity and seized all of Henry IV's land and wealth, thereby denying him his inheritance.
Undeterred, Henry invaded England with troops loaned to him by the King of France, and they landed at Ravenspur in Yorkshire, This resulted in Richard surrendering to Henry, who ascended to the throne, he declared his son Henry V as heir apparent and bestowed the title of Prince of Wales, on the same day that he was crowned in 1399 at Westminster Abbey. Henry V ascended to the English throne on the death of his father Henry IV, his Coronation took place on 9th April 1413, he was twenty five years of age.
At an early age he proved his military prowess and had been given his own command of the Royal forces, when they fought at the bloody Battle Of Agincourt. He also lusted after the crown in France, and he besieged Normandy, and in a bid to secure stability and strengthen relations with France he married the daughter of the king Of France, Catherine Of Valois, at Troyes Cathedral in France in 1420, in the hope of ending the many battles that had ensued over the last eight decades and at the inception and signing of the Treaty Of Troyes he become recognised as the heir to the throne in France. He took his wife on a tour of the Realm in England, but on his return to France he became ill, and died on the 31st August 1422, his baby son succeeded him, and ruled as Henry VI. Henry V was buried at Westminster Abbey in London on the 7th November, 1422, and perhaps immortalised for ever more by William Shakespeare play Henry V.
