Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known by his pen name, was also a gifted mathmetician, logician, anglican clergyman and photographer. Studied at Oxford and won the Christ Church Mathematical Lectureship, and despite his boredom remained at Christ Church until his death. His most famous works are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and the sequel Through the Looking Glass (1872). A family friend Alice Liddell is widely reputed to be the inspiration behind his own Alice. He also wrote poetry, his most famous being The Hunting of The Snark (1876).
