Houghton Hall in North Norfolk was built in the early 18th century by Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first Prime Minister. Since 1797 it has been a home of the Marquesses of Cholmondeley who, by heredity, hold the post of joint Lord Great Chamberlain. It is one of the most impressive Palladian houses in England, with interiors by William Kent. The 4,500 acre Estate borders H.M. The Queen’s Sandringham Estate and the Hall is set in fine parkland where a large herd of rare white fallow deer roam free along with small groups of 'exotic' deer. Within the park there is an enormous 18th century stable block and the medieval church of St. Martin's. Houghton Park is classified as Grade 1 and recognised as being of international importance.

The Houghton Estate is situated just off the A148 King's Lynn to Cromer road, about ten miles from the north Norfolk coast and within reach of Norwich and the Norfolk Broads. As well as an impressive collection of paintings, tapestries, silver and beautiful furniture, Houghton is home of the Cholmondeley Soldier Museum, a unique collection of over 22,000 models designed to depict famous battles throughout history. Guests at Bunker's Hill Cottage, The Water House and The South Lodge will receive complimentary entry tickets to view Houghton Hall during their stay if their holiday falls between Easter and the end of September, the months during which the house is open to the public.
