Perthshire Reports

Pitlochry, Perthshire

Review of Pitlochry by Ian whittle on September 1st, 2008
Well having just returned from the Tummell valley (today actually), having spent a week at the holiday park, thought i would give my impressions whilst still clear in my mind- we spent a week in a heather range caravan, costing 450 for the week. The park is 13 mile from Pitlochry, and set in a beautiful park near the river (which was a torrent all this week!). Checking in was easy and painless (4pm though), and our van was clean and comfortable, if unfortunatley at the very top of the hill in the woods!meaning quite a walk! The reception is at the very bottom, linked to a shop, the bar and small entertainment lounge and restuarant. The pool, though small and not deep only allows 33 people in at a time (hourly timed sessions), on a first come first in basis. The shop stocks most things slightly more expensive than in the nearest town, but thats to be expected. the bar was well stocked (2.60 a pint of Lager, 1.80 pint of coke etc), though most of the staff would appear to be immigrant workers and speak little english! That applies to the small take away shop (chippy!)too! Be clear you check your order when recieved! The entertainment was no where near as good as say a Haven park, more poor club singers etc, little else really, bngo every night at 7pm, some basic small kids entertainment and thats about it for the bar. Meals, were pricy apart from the breakfasts, but very nice. The Sunday carvery however was overpriced for the portion (adults 8.95, kids 4.95). Word of warning, as expected there were lots of mossies and if your unlucky with these critters, expect lots of nasty bites! ( i dont usually get bitten, i did many times this week as did my son!) There was an infestation of wasps also! they were everywhere and in your pints if outside- crawling into open coke cans etc- BEWARE! The weather (beyond controll i know!)was quite poor with rain most days except one, and this led to boredom on the kids parts as there is nothing to do here in the rain! Bicycle hire was maxed out on the fine day, so if you intend to do this look at the weather and book early. pitlochry is a nice town and well worth a visit, as is Aberfeldy nearby. Other attractions involve a long round trip so expect to put in plenty of fuel if your out and about daily from here. To summarise- total peace and quiet, magnificent scenery- park a little run down and basic facilities- little to do if raining, even quite a few of their small amusement arcade games were not working! If you prefer Haven park type facilities this is not your place. If y just want peace and quiet with a drink on an evening, sitting by the river etc, this will suit you. This review may have been differant had the sun shone, as we had planned so much outdoors etc. we will not be going again in the near future, the kids prefer a more lively environment, and i was knackered after a five hour drive to get home! Hope you enjoy and found some of this usefull Ian

Review of Pitlochry by Miss Mackie on June 2nd, 2008
I have just returned from a family trip to Faskally camp site. We were a group of 26 including small children. I was appalled with the manners and customer service from the staff. We went to bed at 1am after packing up and getting all the children ready for bed after the 12am curfew. The next morning we were asked to leave due to complaints from others campers even though there were others still sitting up when we went to bed. Upon collecting our refunds from the shop we were distastefully called a 'mob' by one of the workers with the manager looking on. We have been going to this camp site for 5 years and have never had a minutes trouble until this weekend. I would advise anyone looking for a short holiday to avoid this site as it is not a place for having fun or a wee drink - apparently. We will be looking for somewhere else for our camping trip next year - definitely!
