Born 1676. Died 1745 - English Whig politician, the first Prime Minister of Great Britain.


Entered House of Commons in 1701 as Whig member for Castle Rising. Exceptionable speaker rising quickly within party ranks. Given immense freedom by George I he chaired small group of Ministers, forerunner to present day Cabinet. Seen as Englandís first Prime Minister. Knighted in 1725. Created Earl of Orford in 1742.
