Born 1945. Mayor of London and former leader of the GLC.

Joined Labour Party in 1969. Served as Lambeth and Camden local councillor (1971-78). Became leader of Greater London Council in 1980, disbanded in 1986. Elected as MP for Brent East in 1987. Elected to newly created post of Mayor of London in 2000 until 2008.
