Rowed across the Atlantic with John Ridgeway in 1966. Sailed solo around the world in 1970-71 in westward direction. Sailed from Cape Verde to Antigua in record time. Organised BT Global Challenge Round The World Yacht Race. Awarded the CBE in 1972, knighted in 1997.
